The Regional Centre of Education and Language School Providing State Language Exams, Pilsen (abbreviation KCVJS) provides training programmes for teachers, as well as lifelong learning programmes for the general public. It was founded and it is financed by the Regional Authority of the Pilsen Region. There is also a language school which is a branch of the centre, providing language courses on all levels in Czech, English, German, French, Spanish and Russian. With approximately 12 000 learners a year, the centre is a substantial provider in adult education in the Pilsen region.
The centre takes a flexible approach to teaching, including a wide range of audiovisual aids as well as computers and a well-stocked library open to participants also with specific needs. KCVJS is the approved centre of City&Guilds exams and certified institution providing exams for immigrants asking for residency in the Czech Republic.
Recently KCVJS started to focus on flexible systems of basic skills training, and also experience in teacher training. It is part of a national network of training centres. As a member of EBSN and a partner in BASKET project, KCVJS tries to promote basic skills training and basic skills for adults as such among and clients and teachers. Thanks to experience from administration of ESF projects (European Language Portfolio and Further Teacher Training in Pilsner Region), KCVJS focuses on basic skills training for adults as one of the most important aspects within lifelong learning, unfortunately underestimated by authorities. In this effort KCVJS is going to be an advisory centre for adults seeking better jobs, underpinning their basic skills.
